About The Role Allen Archaeology Ltd Archives Assistant (Grade 1.2 to Grade 1.3) £26,740.78 – £27,831.18 per annum, depending on experience (Pay award pending) We are currently looking to appoint an Archive Assistant to support our in-house Post-Excavation team based at our head office in Lincoln. The postholder will assist and support the Archives Officer from the initial processing, washing and quantification of artefacts and ecofacts, through to the preparation of paper, physical and digital archives, meeting internal standards and requirements for deposition of the relevant receiving bodies. The postholder should be people orientated and happy to work together as part of a team in the delivery of a variety of exciting projects. Key Tasks And Responsibilities Preparation and deposition of project archives (physical, documentary, and digital etc) Undertake processing of artefacts and ecofacts (animal bone, human remains) Undertake processing of environmental samples (including waterlogged samples) Undertake packaging, storage, transportation, and handling of artefacts and ecofacts Undertake finds first aid Maintenance of equipment and processing areas Data entry (including finds and environmental data) Collaborate with colleagues to meet key deliverables on budget and within required timescales Communicate with external stakeholders via email and telephone Develop your own knowledge and skills Undertake other post-excavation tasks appropriate to your skills and knowledge Essential Good all-round knowledge of British archaeology Experience of working in post-excavation or archives Basic understanding of finds preservation/conservation, correct packaging and storage requirements An understanding of the processes required for archiving archaeological material Ability to work methodically and enjoy tasks which require attention to detail Enthusiasm and a willingness to work in a team, learn and take instruction A courteous and professional manner Experience using Microsoft Office and working with spreadsheets and databases Full Driving Licence (and a willingness to drive company vehicles) Desirable At least 3 months experience of UK commercial Archaeology Experience of dealing with archives from different types of sites Membership of CIfA at PCIfA/ACIfA level In Addition To The Basic Salary, You Will Receive Enhanced sick pay after a qualifying period 28 days holiday pro rata (inclusive of public holidays) rising after 3 years continuous service Occupational pension with employer’s contribution after a qualifying period 50% contribution to CIfA membership To apply, please follow this link to submit your CV and Cover Letter via the following link: References will not be approached without permission.
