Job Summary:

The Child Life Specialist I provides support and promotes effective coping for pediatric patients through play, preparation, education, and self-expression activities during medical care and treatment. This role focuses on creating a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment for children and families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Meet and assess pediatric patients within 24 hours of admission or consult.
• Develop and implement collaborative psychosocial care plans tailored to the medical needs and developmental level of each patient.
• Provide an emotionally and physically safe environment, focusing on reducing stress and increasing understanding of medical procedures through play and psychological support.
• Facilitate therapeutic play, preparation, and educational activities to support patients and families.
• Participate in child life special events and related activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all organizational policies and standards.

Required Skills:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with children, families, and medical staff.
• Ability to create a safe and supportive environment for pediatric patients.
• Knowledge of child development, therapeutic play, and coping strategies.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in pediatric healthcare or child life support settings.
• Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary medical teams.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, or related field (Required)

Master’s Degree in Child Life, Child Development, or related field (Preferred)

Certifications:

Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) from the Child Life Certifying Committee (CLCC) – Required
