Job Description

Small Places is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to developing farms in under-resourced neighborhoods to address systemic inequalities at the community level. Our farms aim to become integral parts of their communities by providing convenient, affordable access to high-quality foods and creating safe, welcoming spaces for our neighbors. Working primarily within a working-class Latino community, we prioritize representation, inclusion, and support for our immediate neighborhood. We strive to be an open and safe workplace for people of all backgrounds and experiences, leveraging our farm to foster a caring and just community. Our supporting Farm Manager will be essential in updating farm processes for our new space, leading the transition, and launching production at the new farm site. Additionally, they will develop and support our inaugural class of Farm apprentices. This USDA-supported program will create three full-time salaried apprenticeship positions. Responsibilities Manage daily farm operations, including planning, seeding, planting, weeding, and irrigation. Plan weekly priorities through regular meetings with the Lead Farm Manager and Executive Director. Direct, manage, and train staff, volunteers, and seasonal help, including supporting the Apprenticeship program. Contribute to improving operations through routines, processes, checklists, record-keeping, farming techniques, and infrastructure projects. Oversee weekly farm maintenance, handle email inquiries, coordinate trips and purchases, and implement farm improvements. Support weekend activities as needed, such as farm stands, volunteer groups, and maintenance. Compensation This position is salaried, varies DOE, ranging from $50,000 to $56,000 annually.
