Job Title Healthcare Program Consultant 1 – Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Coordinator Location District 4 Public Health, 301 Main Street, LaGrange, GA 30240 Job Description Performs complex administrative duties and statistical, financial, or operational data analysis and reporting in support of management decision making in EHDI program. Identifies trends, discrepancies, and variances to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. May partner with other departments, divisions, outside agencies, and vendors to address business issues. Exercises various latitudes of independent judgment. Acts as content expert for EHDI program. Monitors and plans for annual budget with Direct Supervisor and District Administrator. All District 4 Public Health, County BOH employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours. Job Responsibilities Adhere to State mandated protocols – Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A.) 31-1-3.2, O.C.G.A. 31-12-2, 6 & 7, Rule 511-5-5 for the Georgia Newborn Screening Program (NBS) and EHDI process flow. Utilize the UNHSI (Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention) module of the State Electronic Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (SendSS) as the primary method of tracking referrals and documentation of follow‑up activities. Ensure all newborns referred to EHDI are linked to a Primary Care Provider. Promote the EHDI Program throughout the Health Districts to ensure appropriate and timely assessment in following best practices and achieving 1-3-6 goals: 1‑month goal: Newborns receive hearing screen in hospital prior to discharge and follow‑up hearing screen if needed by one month of age. Assist families of infants who fail or miss their newborn hearing screening to find follow‑up services and understand the importance of timely follow‑up, as well as the risks of untreated hearing loss. 3‑month goal: Infants not passing the follow‑up screen will receive a diagnostic audiological evaluation by three months of age. Assist families of infants who fail follow‑up screens or were in the NICU to find a licensed audiologist for diagnostic evaluation, emphasizing timely follow‑up, as well as the risks of untreated hearing loss. 6‑month goal: Infants diagnosed with hearing loss are referred to appropriate early intervention services by six months of age. Assist families of infants with confirmed permanent childhood hearing loss in understanding the importance of early intervention and support services, available resources, and promoting language and literacy. Provide technical assistance, as needed, to district/county staff and providers regarding the EHDI Program. Communicate provider and birthing facility compliance concerns (e.g., lack of reporting, high refer rate, broken equipment) to the State EHDI Program Manager and State Child Health Audiologist. Collaborate with Child Health Audiologist and/or contracted audiologist to provide training to district providers and birthing facilities, as needed. Complete quarterly and annually EHDI Program Reports as directed by EHDI Program Deliverables. Contact all hospitals in the district quarterly to encourage reporting of aggregate data and referral information by reporting deadlines. Conduct EHDI District or Regional Stakeholder Committee meetings twice a year to include parents of children with hearing loss. Review audiological provider directory routinely and notify State EHDI Program Manager and State Child Health Audiologist of any updates. Complete annual orientation meeting with State EHDI Program Manager and State Child Health. Provide technical assistance and training as needed to county health department staff and community partners. Attend regional and national Early Hearing Detection and Intervention meetings based on funding allowance. Occasional travel in the 12‑county area is required. If an agency vehicle is not available, employee will be reimbursed for personal mileage based on State of Georgia travel regulations. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience performing work related to the area of assignment; or six (6) years of experience performing work related to the area of assignment; or Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university. Note: Some positions may require licensure. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual (English & Spanish) Advanced Proficiency in Excel Work requires ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously. Must demonstrate excellent customer service and oral communication skills, to effectively interact with all levels of departmental personnel and outside clients.
