Senior Engineer – Magical Toys App Development

Location: San Francisco: Full-time | Founding Team

About Magical Toys

Magical Toys is a seed-stage startup pioneering AI-driven conversational companions for kids . We’re on a mission to create imaginative, emotionally intelligent, and safe digital experiences that spark creativity and meaningful play. As we gear up for our first commercial product launch, we’re looking for a Founding Engineer to take technical ownership of our parent-facing app —driving everything from onboarding through to subscription conversion .

The Role

As our Senior Engineer , you will be a critical, early team member , shaping both the app architecture and the product experience for parents . You’ll work closely with our CEO, product and design team, and AI engineers to build a seamless, intuitive parent-facing companion to our AI-powered toy . This is an opportunity to lead, own, and build from the ground up —from initial UX flows to scaling for tens of thousands of families.

The Product

The Magical Toys Parent App enhances the AI toy experience by allowing parents to personalize interactions, gain insights into their child’s development, and stay connected to their play. Parents can access conversation logs and contextual insights, making their child’s engagement more meaningful. A premium subscription unlocks advanced features, offering deeper understanding and richer interactions.

What You’ll Own

Full technical ownership of the parent companion app (React-based)

• Meaningful contribution to the backend server (Python) and how it communicates to the app 

• Implement subscription flows, payments, and engagement features

• Ensure data privacy & security (compliance with COPPA, GDPR-K, etc.)

• Work with designers to create a delightful and intuitive UI/UX

• Set up best practices for testing, performance, and scalability

Who You Are

Senior-level full-stack or front-end engineer experience

• Strong React and mobile-first development skills

• Experience with backend development (Python)

• Prior experience in consumer apps, kids’ products, or AI-driven experiences (bonus!)

• Excited about building from 0 → 1 and taking ownership in an early-stage startup

• Passionate about creating magical experiences for kids & families

• Comfortable making high-impact technical decisions with minimal oversight
