Job Description

CBR is the #1 entertainment website and publishes up-to-the-minute news on blockbuster movies, TV shows, video games, comic books, and anime.   

As a worldwide leader, CBR operates at a rapid pace and is always looking for experienced and passionate contributors who can create original high-quality content in a timely manner. 

Responsibilities

  • Site Leadership
    • Lead the Movies & TV news verticals, aligning content strategy with the overall goals of CBR.
    • Liaise with in-house Valnet operations teams on team progress, challenges, and operational needs.
    • Participate in editorial pitch meetings to provide feedback on pitches and maintain editorial focus.
    • Grow Movies & TV news coverage and performance following a content investment strategy, building upon successful content types and topics.
    • Conduct weekly staff meetings to communicate progress on traffic goals, site initiatives, and to provide team support.
    • Participate in weekly meetings with Valnet supervisors to assess bandwidth, track traffic performance, and output initiatives.
    • Develop and implement strategies for sustained growth within the Movies & TV news spaces.
  • Audit and Optimization
    • Regularly audit news coverage, identifying areas for improvement or expansion.
    • Focus on driving improvements to the segment’s news sourcing and timeliness practices to strengthen CBR’s industry-leading Movies & TV news coverage.
    • Propose and implement solutions to achieve ambitious traffic targets.
  • Content Strategy & Planning
    • Research and identify traffic-driving topics using data from internal and external tools, expanding coverage of Movies & TV news-related topics.
    • Build strategies to expand original news coverage. 
    • Source stories, breaking news, and unique angles for writers and editors to ensure engaging, authoritative content.
  • Team Management & Development
    • Build and lead a team of skilled writers and editors with a passion for Movies & TV news.
    • Collaborate with HR to identify and onboard new talent, including writers and editors.
    • Manage the development and training of the editorial team to ensure quality and output targets are met.
    • Ensure adherence to CBR’s publication standards, offering regular feedback and performance assessments.
    • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that encourages creativity and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in senior editorial roles at digital publications specializing in Movies & TV content.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Significant experience optimizing content for Google Discover. 
  • Experience with SEO and analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Ahrefs, among others.
  • Deep knowledge of the Movies & TV industry and a passion for the medium.
  • Proven experience managing freelance writers and growing a team, with a track record of expanding coverage and driving traffic.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives.
