The Patient Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) and, according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and patient care procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit. Responsibilities include patient and visitor interactions, customer service, hourly rounding, patient safe handling, ambulation, repositioning, basic nursing care (ADLs), admission/discharge/transfers, procedures and treatments such as vital signs, weights, intake & output, calorie counts, urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care, specimen collection, blood sugar testing, care companion/sitter/observer duties, and department specific tasks like restocking and cleaning. Minimum requirements include eligibility to work in the US, preferred completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course, current BLS certification or to be obtained within 90 days, no experience required, and excellent interpersonal skills. Working conditions involve exposure to blood, body fluids, chemicals, and other hazards, with physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds and use of PPE. Basic computer skills are required. The job is full-time, night shift with rotating weekends, located at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, IL.
