Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking an exceptional product leader to own and drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for our healthcare analytics platform. As a product manager at SmartLight, you will define what we build, why we build it, and how it delivers value to self-funded employers and their employees. This role requires someone who can operate strategically at the highest level while remaining deeply connected to customer needs, market dynamics, and technical feasibility. You'll work at the intersection of healthcare domain expertise, data analytics, and enterprise software, translating complex problems into elegant product solutions. The ideal candidate brings a proven track record of building products from concept to scale, defining category-leading roadmaps, and driving measurable business outcomes. We foster a collaborative, learning-oriented culture and encourage ownership, innovation, and professional growth.

Applicants for employment in the US must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the complete product vision and strategy for SmartLight's healthcare analytics platform, aligning product direction with company goals and market opportunities

  • Define and maintain a strategic product roadmap from the ground up, balancing short-term wins with long-term product evolution

  • Conduct deep customer discovery and market research to identify unmet needs, validate hypotheses, and prioritize features that drive adoption and retention

  • Translate complex healthcare data challenges into clear product requirements and user stories that engineering teams can execute against

  • Make critical build-versus-buy decisions and prioritization trade-offs with limited resources in a startup environment

  • Partner closely with engineering teams to deliver high-quality products on schedule

  • Define and track key product metrics (KPIs), using data-driven insights to iterate and optimize product performance

  • Serve as the voice of the customer internally, advocating for user needs while balancing business objectives and technical constraints

  • Build relationships with key customers and stakeholders, conducting regular feedback sessions and beta programs

  • Develop go-to-market strategies in collaboration with sales and marketing teams, including pricing, positioning, and launch plans

  • Create compelling product narratives, roadmaps, and presentations for internal stakeholders, customers, and prospects

  • Stay deeply informed about healthcare industry trends, regulatory changes (HIPAA, etc.), and competitive landscape

  • Mentor and influence cross-functional team members, fostering a product-minded culture across the organization

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred

  • 7+ years of product management experience with B2B SaaS or enterprise software products

  • Proven track record of defining product vision and building strategic roadmaps from scratch with minimal direction

  • Deep experience owning end-to-end product lifecycle, from discovery and definition through launch and optimization

  • Demonstrated success launching products that achieved significant market traction and measurable business impact

  • Strong analytical skills with experience defining metrics, analyzing product data, and making data-informed decisions

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence without authority and build consensus across diverse teams

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with ability to articulate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience working in fast-paced, resource-constrained environments (startup or high-growth companies)

  • Strong understanding of agile development methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.)

  • Technical fluency to engage credibly with engineering teams and understand architectural trade-offs (coding experience not required but highly valued)

  • Customer-obsessed mindset with proven ability to translate customer insights into product strategy

  • Strategic thinking combined with tactical execution excellence and attention to detail

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make decisions with incomplete information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare industry experience, particularly with employer-sponsored health plans, claims data, or healthcare cost management

  • Deep understanding of HIPAA compliance, healthcare data privacy, and security requirements

  • Experience with data analytics products, business intelligence platforms, or data visualization tools

  • Knowledge of healthcare benefits, self-funded insurance models, and healthcare economics

  • Background in management consulting, strategy, or business operations

  • Experience with API products or platform-based business models

  • Familiarity with modern product management frameworks (Jobs-to-be-Done, Opportunity Solution Trees, Continuous Discovery, etc.)

  • Technical background or experience in a technical role (engineering, data science, etc.)

  • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and design sprints

  • Track record of thought leadership through speaking engagements, writing, or community involvement

  • Previous experience scaling a product from early stage to product-market fit and beyond
