TRIAGE NURSE

CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK:

This position will provide high-quality customer service to patients.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Graduate of accredited school of nursing

Certification / License Requirements:

Must possess a valid Alabama nursing license

Experience:

One-year clinical triage experience preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Perform telephone triage for patients calling their provider with certain symptomology.
• Demonstrates the ability to use the nursing process to collect data. Requires interview/communication skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to level of licensure.
• Ability to work within protocols approved by the clinic to provide information to patients and consumers.
• Accepts inbound calls from patients, pharmacies, and other healthcare entities.
• Acts as a consumer advocate by resolution of problems or communication of consumer needs and concerns to appropriate resources.
• Ability to follow medication refill protocols and act accordingly to those protocols.
• Performs excellent customer service and listens to caller’s concerns, promptly intervenes to solve problem to customer’s satisfaction, and communicates pertinent information to clinical staff and supervisors.
• Participates in care coordination activities & quality studies

SKILLS:

• Knowledge of telephone-based clinical assessment techniques.
• Skill in using electronic medical records to check patient history.
• Knowledge of appropriate at home health information for patients to follow per protocol until physician appointment
