A Day in the Life of the Volunteer and Community Outreach Manager

As the Volunteer and Community Outreach Manager, you’ll design, develop, and lead the volunteer engagement strategy. You’ll build and support a dynamic network of volunteers who advance the organization’s mission through outreach, research, and fundraising. By collaborating across teams, you’ll strengthen their community presence and empower volunteers to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families impacted by blood cancers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive volunteer strategy, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention
  • Design and facilitate training programs that align with HealthTree’s mission and volunteer pathways (Outreach, Research, Fundraising)
  • Lead engaging training sessions that build volunteer confidence and capacity
  • Partner across departments to identify volunteer needs and integrate support effectively
  • Establish systems for volunteer management, communication, and recognition
  • Mentor volunteer leaders across all regions to expand HealthTree’s reach
  • Track and analyze key metrics to evaluate program impact and engagement outcomes
  • Collaborate with event teams to coordinate volunteer participation in Connect to Cures and other initiatives
  • Continuously enhance volunteer experiences through feedback and data-driven insights

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, community development, communications, or related field
  • Proven experience leading, motivating, training, and empowering volunteers
  • 2 + years of experience in volunteer coordination, community outreach, donor development, or training
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities with attention to detail
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive, solution-focused mindset with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, virtual meeting platforms, or CRM systems, or similar tools
  • Willingness to travel as needed
