Position: Excavator Operator

Travel: primary location Toano, VA

We are currently looking for an Excavator Operator to join our team at our VA projects. Reporting to direct field supervision, the Operator is responsible for proficiently and safely operating large excavators. The ideal candidate is able to perform as part of possible pipe laying crew and/or carry out rough grade and finish grade operations with equipment, work independently as well as be able to communicate effectively. Experience with heavy highway construction and pipe laying helpful. This position works along with the entire Project Team to support the completion of assigned construction projects and ensures all plans move forward to meet projected deadlines in safe manner.

This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction.

This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of three (3) years of Heavy Highway experience, operating excavators proficiently
• Familiar with grading, drainage, paving, bridge construction, and other highway construction scopes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
• Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license

Essential Functions:

• Manipulate or depress hand and/or foot controls including pedals, levers and buttons to regulate speed and direction of excavator.
• Experience with dozer GPS Trimble system a plus.
• Ability to perform both rough and finish grade
• Perform preventative maintenance—clean, lubricate and maintain excavator
• Inspect equipment daily for defective parts and records date and malfunction in a log.
• Move, pick up and grade material—including earth and stone and other material.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level.
• Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands
• Must be able to climb, bend and squat.
• Must be able to sit for up to 3-4 hours at a time.
• Must be able to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot and humid weather.
• Position requires acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing.
• Must have the ability to work on uneven surfaces.
