Job Description

Summary

As a Facilities Manager, you will oversee all building systems maintenance and repairs, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components. You will develop and implement preventive maintenance programs, manage facility upgrades and construction projects, and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and state codes. Your role includes leading the maintenance team, managing contracted services, and driving operational efficiency through innovative engineering solutions. You will also oversee transportation fleet maintenance, coordinate vendor services, and manage budgets, inventory, and capital expenditure projects. Additionally, you will recruit, train, and supervise staff, foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement, and partner with Safety and Compliance teams to uphold standards and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure the longevity and reliability of facilities and equipment.
  • Manage facility upgrades, renovations, and construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA safety regulations and state building codes.
  • Partners with Safety to monitor and enforce all maintenance team practices and provide recommendations on improvements.
  • Monitor, maintain and seek continual training programs and certifications for team.
  • Manage contracted maintenance services for lawn, pest, and sanitation.
  • Lead and manage the engineering team to support facility operations and maintenance.
  • Develop and implement engineering solutions to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of new equipment and systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure optimal performance of all engineering systems.
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of the company’s transportation fleet, including vehicles and equipment.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all transportation assets, PIT repairs, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all transportation safety regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for specialized repairs and maintenance.
  • Develop and manage the maintenance and engineering budget.
  • Monitor and control expenses to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Manage inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Responsible for Capital Expenditures specifically quotes and managing projects
  • Recruit, train, and supervise maintenance and engineering staff.
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Partner with Compliance to ensure team is current with Universal procedures and standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, engineering, or maintenance roles.
  • Proven experience in managing transportation maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, equipment, and maintenance practices.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Preferred Requirements

  • Professional certifications in facilities management or engineering (e.g., CFM, PMP).
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy management.
