Job Description

Health Educator Under the general direction of the Youth Health Services Manager, the Health Educator will provide services to the designated high school students and their families. Responsibilities include program planning and implementation, curriculum development, and evaluation of curriculum and programs. The role involves coordinating health education outreach to the student body, providing health education counseling on various health topics, and co‑facilitating youth group(s). The Health Educator is also primarily responsible for youth groups and the implementation of youth survey activities, working within grant guidelines to ensure grant objectives are met. Schedule : This is a full‑time position working 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday with periodic Saturday hours. Compensation : $25.06 – $27.38 per hour, depending on experience. Salary is based on the wage scales outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Responsibilities Assist with the implementation of a Youth Group with support from school staff, recruiting, training, and supervising youth leaders and participants. Develop, coordinate, and implement health education outreach for the school, including collaboration with outside organizations, promotion of health services available to students and faculty, and identifying youth outreach leaders. Provide outreach and health education in family planning, birth control methods, STD prevention, substance abuse prevention, HIV/AIDS education, tobacco cessation, body image, nutrition, sexual orientation, and other relevant areas. In collaboration with the Health Center staff and team, develop, coordinate, and implement youth focus groups and youth input survey, including outreach, recruitment, marketing, and organization of regular meetings. Maintain accurate statistical data regarding program implementation, document daily activities, and complete program objectives. Regularly evaluate programs and produce monthly reports on program accomplishments, presenting grant data to the Director and Site Manager/Supervisor. Maintain a library of current and relevant health education materials such as pamphlets, audiovisual tools, bulletins, and referrals to other sources. Stay abreast of research and development regarding health education and mental health for youth and adolescents; produce and/or update health education materials as needed. Work as a member of the Youth Health Services Team, taking on responsibilities as needed to ensure an overall successful program. Assist with patient registration and eligibility services as needed by the clinic. Collaborate with the school’s COST team and other health services providers on campus for referrals and related services. Maintain HIPAA and strict confidentiality regarding students, parents, and other pertinent school information. Perform all duties and services in full compliance with TVHC’s Service Excellence Standards. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Site Supervisor/Site Manager and/or the Director of the Youth Health Services. Requirements High School diploma required; AA in counseling psychology, public health, social work preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish required. BLS Certification required. Minimum of two (2) years experience working with adolescent population required. Experience working with diverse populations preferred. Experience implementing peer leader programs strongly preferred. Experience in a school‑based or teen center setting preferred. Case management, counseling, and parent engagement experience strongly preferred. Qualifications Computer literate, preferably with Windows 95 or higher, MS-Office Applications, and graphic applications (Illustrator/Photoshop, etc.). Understands principles of, and can implement, the peer leadership and youth empowerment model. Understands principles of, and can implement, violence prevention and conflict resolution strategies, pertaining to reducing racial bias and school‑based violence. Is culturally sensitive and demonstrates ability and enjoyment in working with ethnically diverse adolescent populations in a progressive environment committed to social justice issues. Non‑judgmental, highly ethical, and able to maintain strict confidentiality. Understands issues particular to adolescent populations, including adolescent development and health issues. Understands principles of community health outreach and health promotion. Knowledge of relevant resources such as city, county, and state welfare and social services programs and agencies. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Able and willing to work on an as‑needed basis in order to meet operational needs of the clinic.
