SUMMARY
Provides medical, diagnostic and treatment services to individuals with substance use and mental health disorders in collaboration with agency psychiatrists. Work is performed under general supervision and is guided by policies and procedures, quality assurance, public and private payor guidelines, diagnostic guidelines and professional practices and including ethical standards related to client interactions, state and federal licensure and accreditation regulations and guidelines. Primary role will be serving those with a primary opioid use disorder in a mobile OBOT/OBAT setting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the principles, standards, practices and techniques related to Psychiatry and nursing; thorough knowledge of the characteristics and precautions to be taken in the administration of psychotropic medication; thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques related to individual therapy, counseling practices and risk assessment for the mentally ill; thorough knowledge of individual management guidelines for Virginia; thorough knowledge of the laws and legal procedures relating to hospital admission; thorough knowledge of community resources hospitalization options, treatment providers and other agencies in service to the mentally ill population; ability to establish and maintain rapport with the individual population; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and with private and public community partners; physicians, subordinates and others contacted in the course of work; ability to function calmly in stressful, if not crisis situations; ability to risk assess and prioritize service demands; ability to prepare and maintain patient medical records and prepare reports in compliance with licensure regulations; ability to conduct effective interviews, observe, assess and record individual behaviors and functioning and develop treatment and service plans; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to confidently provide expert testimony in both oral and written formats; ability to operate a vehicle.
TYPICAL EDUCATION, TRAINING AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in nursing and at least three years professional clinical experience in community mental health, with at least one year treating those with opioid use disorders.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS
Certification as a psychiatric nurse practitioner through the Virginia Board of Nursing. Current DEA registration. Valid VA driver's license.
OTHER
Must possess all qualifications and skills required by federal and state regulations to bill Medicaid for the services provided.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL EXPOSURE
Work involves some exposure to disagreeable environmental conditions such including the requirement to intensely interacting with challenging and potentially violent individuals having unsanitary behaviors, poor hygiene and/or contagious illness. This position will primarily be performed in a mobile clinic environment.

Relationships require advanced communication, social and interpersonal skills, tact and the use of specialized techniques to elicit information from and convey information to clients including hostile and abusive individuals and client families; represent the program and obtain cooperation with clinical professionals within and external to the agency.
