Job Description

This position offers eligibility for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific VHA policy requirements and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be considered for referral and tentative selection but not final hire until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who initially met the qualification standards are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school
• Current unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S. or its territories
• Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited program
• For residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs: eligibility to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who are fully licensed but only perform under supervision and are not considered independent practitioners
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine
• DEA Waiver to Prescribe Buprenorphine
• Experience in treating Opioid Use Disorders
• Preferred: ABPN Addiction Board Certification
• Physical ability to perform all activities without restriction, including standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and climbing stairs

Duties

• Provide healthcare services to veterans at Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Healthcare System, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
• Refer patients to ancillary services and document all care in the computerized patient record system (CPRS)
• Prescribe medications in accordance with the formulary and clinical indications
• Serve as treatment and consulting psychiatrist on the Pain Management Clinic Team
• Perform other duties as assigned, including providing psychiatric consultations and adhering to VA policies
• Participate in the VAs total rewards program, which includes incentives, retirement plans, insurance, and other benefits
