Visiting Assistant Professor to teach graduate courses in Counselor Education in the Department of Educational Psychology. The appointment is for August 2026 to May 2027 with the possibility of renewal depending on available funding, program needs, and job performance. The candidate’s field of experience and teaching should be centered on Counselor Education.


The Counselor Education Program at Miami University is a new online master’s degree program for Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling. Successful applicants would be expected to teach core courses in the program and in either specialty area, demonstrate effectiveness as an instructor in an online environment, and serve as a contributing member of our faculty team. Courses will be delivered remotely (using both synchronous and asynchronous modalities); the position may require teaching courses for other programs.

Minimum Qualifications:


By the date of appointment, the candidate must have either:

  • Earned their doctoral degree in counselor education
  • Or qualify under the CACREP standard of having an earned doctoral degree in a related profession and have been employed as full-time faculty in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year prior to July 1, 2013
  • Or have been employed as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE-accredited master’s program prior to July 1, 2017
  • Or have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018.

Also, the candidate must actively engage with the counseling profession by maintaining membership in appropriate counseling organizations and must either maintain licensure in either clinical mental health counseling (LPC, LPCC, LPCC-S) and/or school counseling or be license-eligible in the state of Ohio.

Consideration may be given to candidates with the following:


  • Professional practice, teaching, and advocacy in clinical mental health counseling or school counseling (preferably with experience in both specialty areas, specifically school counseling or school-based mental health experience)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching both clinical mental health and school counseling students (preferably in an online modality)
